Our inaugural meeting was held on Monday 25th September in the Beehive Inn on the Grassmarket in Edinburgh. It’s a cracking pub with two decent-sized rooms upstairs.
The first meeting is fast approaching and we have had to take a second look at the venue due to the now 40 people who have RSVPed! Hopefully we will see a good turn out but for those unable to attend we will be recording the talks for posting later on youtube. We currently have our resident sound engineer tweaking our setup…
The format of the evening will be
- 7pm Introduction to NetMeetup Scotland
- 7:15pm – How the intertubes really work – Charlie Boisseau
- 8:00pm – GPON 101: An investigation into building an FTTH Network – James Sweet
Our first talk by Charlie Boisseau is an in depth look at the networking components required to deliver videos of cats to you device. From FTTC DSLAMs to BGP to Internet Exchange Points this talk will illustrate all that goes on to serve content to you.
The second talk details our investigations as part of a recent project into whats required to build a Fibre to the Home network. From OLTs to passive splitters to TDMA an overview of the components used in passive optical networks.
People will be around in bar the from around 6pm
Look forward to seeing your all there!
